Introduction to the Study of Kinesiology

Andrea Coraddu

Kinesiology is that the scientific study of human or non-human body movement. Physiology is that the scientific study of human or non-human body movement. Physiology addresses physiological, biomechanical, and psychological dynamic principles and mechanisms of movement. Kinesiologists study the acquisition of motor skills, the mechanical aspects of movement, and therefore the body's responses to physical activity. Applications of physiology to human health (i.e., human kinesiology) embody biomechanics and orthopedics; strength and conditioning; sport psychology; motor control; talent acquisition and motor learning; strategies of rehabilitation, like physical and activity therapy; and sport and exercise physiology.1
