Nipah Virus: A Zoonotic Pathogen Endemic to Asia

Nipah virus emerged 20 years ago, it causes serious morbidity and mortality in animals as well as in humans. The outbreak observed in Malaysia, Bangladesh, and India. Nipah virus is a nega- tive single-stranded RNA genome which has the same life cycle as other negative RNA contain- ing a genome, the virus having a deadly effect on humans it will mainly affect the respiratory system and Central nervous system. Any FDA approved Single Drug or combination of Drugs was found effective against viruses. But in some patients combination of the antiviral Ribavirin and antimalarial chloroquine gives a positive response against the virus Several targets are taken into consideration like siRNA, Fusion Proteins, Membrane entry, etc. several diagnostic tests against the virus are ELISA test and SNT test.
