The comparative effects of exogenous Nitric oxide and He-Ne Laser on wheat exposed to enhanced Ultraviolet-B Radiation

Exposure to ultraviolet-B radiation (UV-B) affects plants in various ways. This study was conducted to determine the comparative effects of exogenous nitric oxide (NO) and He-Ne Laser(5mWmm-2 )on alleviating effects of UV-B light (10.08 kJ•m–2•d–1) on ML7113 wheat development. Sodium nitro prusside (SNP) was selected as an exogenous nitric oxide (NO) donor,and the seed of wheat was presoaked with 0.1 mmol/L SNP for 24h.In this work, six treatment groups was set: control group (CK) ,ultraviolet-B treatment group (B), combined ultraviolet-B and He-Ne laser radiation treatment group (BL), laser treatment (L), combined ultraviolet-B and sodium nitro prusside treatment group (B+SNP) and sodium nitro prusside individual treatment group (SNP).The results showed enhanced the UV-B leads to negative impact on growth and development of seedlings. Seedling growth for 7 days, the ultraviolet-B treatment of height, CAT activity, Fo, Fv and Fv/Fm decreased significantly compared with the control group while MDA content on the contrary. Exogenous nitric oxide and He-Ne Laser partially protected wheat seedlings from UV-B treatment damage. This finding results suggest that He-Ne laser has a stronger ability than exogenous nitric oxide to repair in UV-B radiation.
