Objective: To determine the quality of sleep among pregnant women and analyze the associated socio demographic factors.
Study design: Descriptive cross sectional study.
Subjects and Methods: The sample population comprised of 114 pregnant women reporting for ante natal checkup at a tertiary care hospital in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Quality of sleep was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Relationship of age, gestation, parity, planned or unplanned pregnancy, education, level of family income and tobacco smoking was assessed with sleep disturbances.
Results: Out of 114 women screened through PSQI, 26.3% had good sleep quality while 73.7% had poor sleep quality. After applying the logistic regression we found that increasing age, low family income and late gestation had significant association with poor sleep quality.
Conclusion: This study showed a high prevalence of poor sleep quality among pregnant women in Pakistan. Special attention should be paid to women with more age, late pregnancy and low income.
